Our connection to the earth can evoke wonderful music, just as readily as our connection to one another. Tonight’s concert celebrates the beauty of the earth, helps renew our bond with nature, and rewards us with laughter and cheer. Guest Artist Dana Lyons is a distinguished songwriter and renowned performer. A musical spokesman for the environmental movement, Lyons is likened to a contemporary Pete Seeger.
Winter holidays offer a wealth of seasonal music. Tonight’s concert honors a wide range of festivities, from Christmas and Winter Solstice to Hanukkah and Kwanza.
The joyful music of Wintersong creates the setting for a warm evening of celebration with family and friends. Many of the songs will be accompanied by the glistening music of hand bells. Masterworks tonight welcomes back as our special guest artists the acclaimed Pacific Northwest hand bell ensemble, Bells of the Cascades.

Join us as the finest a cappella talent of the Northwest region serves up an evening of impeccable harmonies and scintillating arrangements – and you help select the award winners! Hosts and guest artists The Baudboys are the 2011 Northwest 1st place champions. Smilin’ Jay of Olympia’s KGY AM/FM radio returns as the event’s beguiling emcee!
The voices of Masterworks join with Gary Gibson’s steel drum band to perform the newly commissioned In the Shadows of the Forest. Based in the folklore of Trinidad, the nine-movement work premiered to glowing reviews in Houston in 2010, and in Virginia at the PANorama Steel Band Festival in May of 2010. Musical forms including classical, soca, samba, calypso, ska, and cha cha, challenge the choir to sing in classical, gospel and jazz styles for a unique musical experience.
World music emerged in the 1980’s, with the growth of popular music releases in non-English languages. Led at first by music from Africa, today’s world music draws from all corners of the globe. Now a recognized genre, World Music combines folk and indigenous music creating an upbeat and authentic sound.
Guest Artists Ocho Pies will have patrons dancing in the aisles with their blend of dance and music from Africa, South America, Ireland and Cuba.
The Masterworks Choral Ensemble (MCE) is an adult Southwest Washington chorus dedicated to performance, community service, music education, and
leadership in the arts. The mission is to perform sacred and secular choral, orchestral, and new commissioned works; to collaborate with other arts groups; to participate in community service
activities; and to provide a leadership in developing, sponsoring, and broadening the vocal arts.
